Pioneers Announce 2025-26 Season Schedule

The Portage Lake Pioneers are back with a mission to retain the Kohlman Cup!

What a great 2024-2025 Great Lakes Hockey League (GLHL) season it was!

The Pioneers had a great off season of celebration and keeping the lungs fresh.

Another chapter for the hunt to retain the Kohlman Cup in 2026 begins!

New League Format:

The GLHL has moved to a three-division format for the 2025-26 season with the Pioneers competing in the the North division against the Eagle River Falcons and their longtime rivals the Calumet Wolverines. The Pioneers will play four games against each North division team and two games against each Central and South division teams.

Schedule Highlights:

The Pioneers will begin their season on the road against the Marinette Shamrocks November 7th at the Marinette Community REC Center.

December 5th & 6th - Home Opener Games:

Friday vs Sun Prairie Killers Bees - 7:30PM at Dee Stadium
Saturday vs Fond du Lac Bears - 7:30PM at Dee Stadium

December 26th & 27th - Christmas Games:

Friday vs Calumet Wolverines - 7:30PM at Calumet Colosseum
Saturday vs Calumet Wolverines - 7:30PM at Dee Stadium

January 31st - USA Pond Hockey Weekend Game:

Saturday vs Eagle River Falcons - 9:00PM at Eagle River Dome

February 4th - MTU Winter Carnival Exhibition Game:

Wednesday vs MTU Wolfpack - 6:30PM at Dee Stadium

March 12th - Oldtimers Hockey Tournament Exhibition Game:

Thursday vs Calumet Wolverines - Time TBD at HOCO Arena

March 27th-29th - GLHL League Tournament

Tournament Host - Portage Lake Pioneers Houghton MI

April 2nd-4th - Gibson Cup Series

Best of 3 vs Calumet Wolverines for the 3rd oldest trophy in hockey

2026 GLHL League Tournament:

The Pioneers are excited to host the 2026 League Tournament right here in the birthplace of professional hockey, Houghton MI, March 27th-29th!

The tournament will feature all nine teams in a new pool-play format.
